Home energy guide
SEAI grants in Ireland
A concise guide to the main home energy supports, the rules that change by measure and where to go next.

Choose a grant route before you choose a package
Individual Energy Upgrade Grants let you arrange eligible measures with registered contractors, including phased work. A registered One Stop Shop manages an assessed whole-home project and deducts the grant upfront. Its eligibility and schedule are different: do not add both routes together for the same work.
Start with the route comparison, then use the cost guide to separate the full project budget from potential support.
Insulation, windows and doors: standard Individual Grants
Amounts below follow dwelling type: detached / semi-detached or end-of-terrace / mid-terrace / apartment. These measures require a home built and occupied before 2011, plus measure-specific conditions.
- Attic insulation: €2,000 / €1,500 / €1,400 / €1,100.
- Cavity wall insulation: €1,800 / €1,300 / €850 / €700.
- External wall insulation: €8,000 / €6,000 / €3,500 / €3,000.
- Internal wall insulation: €4,500 / €3,500 / €2,000 / €1,500. Dry lining needs a whole-surface design and careful moisture and finishing details.
- Windows: €4,000 / €3,000 / €1,800 / €1,500.
External doors: €800 per qualifying door, maximum two. SEAI windows and doors explains the required insulation or heat-loss evidence, replacement criteria and post-works BER. Age alone is insufficient. Wall insulation also has whole-surface requirements.
Enhanced attic support is €2,500 / €1,900 / €1,800 / €1,400 for qualifying first-time buyers and eligible welfare or HAP/RAS cases. Enhanced cavity support is €2,300 / €1,700 / €1,100 / €900 for qualifying welfare or HAP/RAS cases. First-time-buyer status alone does not enhance cavity grants. Read the first-time-buyer guide.
Heating supports
Heating controls: €700 for eligible pre-2011 homes; unavailable if applying for, or having previously claimed, a heat-pump system grant.
Heat pumps: the water-based unit baseline is €6,500 for houses or €4,500 for apartments. A qualifying move to renewable heating can add the €4,000 Renewable Heat Bonus; eligible central-heating improvements add up to €2,000 for houses or €1,000 for apartments. The separate Boiler Scrappage Grant can add €2,000 for qualifying replacements. The resulting maxima of €14,500 / €11,500 require every component to qualify, not simply installation of a heat pump.
The home must have been built and occupied before 2021 and meet SEAI heat-loss requirements. Replacing an existing heat pump has different support rules. Technical assessment support is €200 where applicable; follow the detailed heat-pump guidance rather than assuming all extras apply.
Solar and battery storage
- Solar PV: €700/kWp for the first 2 kWp, then €200/kWp up to 4 kWp; maximum standard grant €1,800.
- Solar thermal: €1,200 for a qualifying solar-hot-water system, subject to the source note below.
- Battery storage: €600 for a qualifying system of at least 5 kWh, not a payment per kWh.
These measures use the built-and-occupied-before-2025 cutoff. Prior funding, registered contractors, technical requirements and grant offers still matter. SEAI also publishes separate enhanced solar support for eligible vulnerable homeowners; the standard €1,800 figure is not that enhanced award. Check SEAI solar electricity rather than assuming DanannIQ models every household-specific programme.
Solar thermal source discrepancy: the September announcement groups solar PV and solar thermal with a €1,800 figure, but the detailed solar-water-heating page specifies €1,200. DanannIQ retains €1,200 and the pre-2025 build and occupancy rule. The detailed page now agrees on that age rule; the amount discrepancy remains. Confirm the award with SEAI rather than budgeting for €1,800. See SEAI announcement: 29 September 2026, changes effective 6 October and SEAI solar water heating.
What One Stop Shop adds
Eligible packages can include rafter insulation (€1,500–€3,000 by dwelling type) and floor insulation (€3,500), alongside other supported measures. Assessment and project-management supports have their own conditions. These are not standalone Individual Grants. The SEAI One Stop Shop: eligibility, services and grant schedule publishes the full route schedule, including ventilation and airtightness.
The OSS route requires a pre-2011 home, a post-works BER of at least B, and either a heat pump or the required primary-energy improvement. DanannIQ cannot certify that outcome. A provider must assess the project.
If you need to spread the remaining cost, read the Home Energy Upgrade Loan guide. Scheme eligibility and a lender?s credit decision are separate from grant approval.
Check eligibility before starting work
Record construction and first occupancy separately, confirm your MPRN and previous grant history, and get the appropriate assessment. Unknown facts leave support unconfirmed. Obtain the required grant offer before work starts. A calculator result cannot approve an application, confirm a technical design or guarantee payment.
For property-specific starting points, read grants for older homes or start with your BER Advisory Report. Fully funded Warmer Homes supports have separate household eligibility and assessment rules; they are not a grant total to add to these route estimates.

Compare indicative project costs and potential SEAI support for your home. Planning eligibility is not final SEAI approval; confirm the scheme rules and obtain written quotes before committing.
