Heat-pump boiler scrappage grant in Ireland
A guide to the potential €2,000 heating-system scrappage support and how it fits a qualifying heat-pump project.
Last reviewed: October 2026
Support attached to a heat-pump project
The Boiler Scrappage Grant can provide €2,000 alongside ordinary heat-pump support where the replacement qualifies. It is a grant component, not a separately priced renovation or a payment for installing another fossil-fuel boiler. Start with the main heat-pump cost and grant guide for system costs, suitability and the wider support breakdown.
Which heating replacements can qualify?
The qualifying situations include removal of an oil or gas boiler, solid-fuel system or electric storage heating system as part of a heat-pump installation. A home without central heating may also qualify when a heat pump is installed.
Generic electric heating does not prove that an electric storage system is being removed. Identify the actual equipment and discuss the proposed replacement with your installer. Replacing an existing heat pump does not qualify for this scrappage support; separate replacement-system rules apply.
Property and planning checks
The home needs an MPRN and must have been built and occupied before 2021. DanannIQ asks about first occupancy, the MPRN and the planned qualifying heating replacement. A Yes answer allows potential scrappage support when the other facts qualify. No excludes it. Missing facts leave it Unconfirmed and no €2,000 is deducted.
An Advisory Report’s heat-pump recommendation is useful planning evidence, but it does not prove that the proposed removal qualifies. Construction year alone does not establish first occupancy. Check the answers against your home and proposed work.
How it fits the heat-pump grant breakdown
The ordinary system support and any eligible scrappage component remain separate in DanannIQ’s breakdown. Necessary central-heating upgrades are another conditional component, dependent on installer/design confirmation. Do not add together Individual Grants and One Stop Shop totals: these are alternative routes.
For a qualifying house, SEAI describes up to €10,500 system support, up to €2,000 for required central-heating components and €2,000 scrappage. These are limits, not automatic payments; dwelling type and qualifying costs affect the result. Ask your installer to confirm each applicable component before relying on the maximum. The scrappage support described here is not added to the DanannIQ One Stop Shop estimate.
What still needs final confirmation?
An SEAI-registered contractor must confirm the design and qualifying removal or installation. Receive the grant offer before work starts and meet SEAI’s technical, application and completion requirements. Final approval rests with SEAI. Contractor selection, grant-offer timing and technical compliance are caveats, rather than required answers on DanannIQ’s planning screen.
Check the official SEAI heat-pump grant rules before applying. Ask for an itemised quote covering the new system, removal and disposal, any distribution changes and work outside the quoted scope.
